The athletic department at St. Mary’s Academy is committed to providing
our students with an athletic experience that builds character in accordance
with the principles of the Catholic Faith. This area of education supports the
academic formation of the intellect in our students.
The aim of both academic and athletic education is to establish a foundation
in the forming of personality and character. Participation in the interscholastic
athletic programs is a privilege reserved for students in good academic standing.
Participation in intramural athletic programs is reserved for Assumption Chapel
Students will learn respect for authority, to take responsibility for their
actions, and to display self discipline at a level which promotes growth by
developing loyalty, pride, integrity and commitment.
Athletics provides the opportunity for student athletes to exhibit a progression
of physical skills and knowledge of a particular sport, enabling them to apply
these skills and knowledge to new situations in a variety of learning formats.
Through participation in athletics, the student-athlete learns that the Catholic
Faith infuses all that he does and that individual and liturgical prayer will
bring him closer to God. The student-athlete must be conscious of the call to
be a leader and representative of the Faith and to acknowledge his active role
in contributing to the positive spirit of the school.
